It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month

This month, CounterCraft celebrates Cybersecurity Awareness Month hand in hand with the National Cybersecurity Alliance.

Cybersecurity is the ultimate goal of everything we do, which is why we are fans of this initiative. Now in its 18th year, Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a growing campaign created to increase awareness of the importance of keeping the internet (and all the data online) safe.

This year’s theme is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.”, marking an effort to empower both individuals and organizations to own their part of cyberspace and implement stronger security measures where possible.

Here at CounterCraft, we are official champions of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. If you are interested in getting involved, spreading the word, or learning more about cybersecurity, here are some links:

  • – Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA): CISA is the United States-based agency dedicated to cybersecurity and defending against today’s threats to build a more secure and resilient infrastructure for the future.

  • – National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA): The NCSA encourages a culture of cybersecurity by building public-private alliances and empowering users at home, work, and school with the information they need to keep themselves safe and secure online. Learn more here.

  • – European Cybersecurity Awareness Month: The European Cybersecurity Month (ECSM) is the European Union’s annual campaign dedicated to promoting cybersecurity among EU citizens and organizations, and to providing up-to-date online security information through awareness raising and sharing of good practices.

  • – Cybersecurity Awareness Month: This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the 18th ever, organizations and individuals can become Champions to help promote a safer, more secure, and more trusted internet. Get a free toolkit today.

  • – National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE): NICE’s focus is to close the hiring gap in the sector’s workforce. They are overseen by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the US Department of Commerce. They will be the host of this year’s Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week (October 18-23, 2021).

More than ever before, technology plays a part in almost everything we do, but recent events show us just how quickly our lives and businesses can be disrupted when cyber criminals and adversaries use technology to do harm. The month features a four-week program that focuses on different aspects of online security:

  • – Understanding and implementing basic cyber hygiene, including the importance of strong passphrases, using multi-factor authentication, performing software updates and backing up data.

  • – Recognizing and reporting phishing attempts whether it’s through email, text messages, or chat boxes.

  • – Empowering individuals to not only practice safe online behavior, but consider joining the mission of securing our online world by considering a career in cybersecurity!

  • – Making cybersecurity a priority in business by making products and processes “secure by design” and considering cybersecurity when purchasing new internet-connected devices.
